CEO’s Welcome Message

As we look back on a strong and productive quarter, the KZN South Coast has continued to strengthen its position as an emerging investment destination within KwaZulu-Natal. Over the past three months, we have witnessed tangible progress in infrastructure development, rising investor confidence and deeper collaboration between government and the private sector through key platforms such as investment summits and trade engagements.

The region has also enjoyed increased media attention during this period, placing the South Coast firmly in the spotlight as one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most attractive coastal investment nodes. This exposure has supported growing interest from both local and national investors, particularly in property and mixed-use developments. What continues to set the South Coast apart is its rare combination of lifestyle and commercial value – a mild year-round climate, internationally recognised Blue Flag beaches, championship golf courses, nature-based activities and a well-developed hospitality offering.

Three Small Craft Harbours Identified for the South Coast

SCTIE participated in a high-level stakeholder engagement with Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala and MEC Musa Zondi on the development of Small Craft Harbours, a strategic initiative under the National Infrastructure Plan. Port Shepstone has been identified as a Tier 1 catalytic harbour, with Hibberdene and Port Edward designated as Tier 2 sites.

These developments are expected to unlock marine tourism, commercial fishing, waterfront retail, property development and job creation, positioning the South Coast as a key player in the ocean economy.

Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate Recognised

Umdoni Point Coastal Forest Estate, developed by P&G Construction, was honoured for its outstanding investment commitment at the 2024 KZN Trade and Investment Conference. The recognition signals strong investor confidence in South Coast developments and showcases the region’s ability to convert investment pledges into completed, operational projects.

SA Women’s Masters: Driving Tourism and Property Investment

The SA Women’s Masters, held from 25–28 November at Southbroom and San Lameer Country Clubs, delivered strong tourism and investment value for the South Coast. The tournament attracted professional golfers, media and visitors, boosting accommodation occupancy, restaurant spend and local business activity. Beyond tourism, the event strengthened the area’s positioning as a premium lifestyle and golf estate investment node, supporting long-term property development, hospitality investment and destination branding.

Buy Local Highlight
South Coast Charcoal Entrepreneurs Fuel Local Manufacturing Growth
The South Coast’s emerging manufacturing sector is being powered by innovative entrepreneurs who are transforming local resources into sustainable businesses. Brighton on Charcoal (Pty) Ltd and Charcoal Legends (Pty) Ltd stand out as examples of how township and rural-based enterprises are strengthening industrial participation and job creation.

Brighton on Charcoal, founded in 2020 by Brighton Nhlakanipho Cele in Mthwalume, has grown from a seasonal beach-side idea into a structured manufacturing business producing approximately 200 bags of 5kg charcoal per month. The business now offers full braai convenience packages and employs eight people. Support from local government in the form of machinery and tools has improved productivity and enabled expansion into guest houses, shisanyamas and retail outlets.

Charcoal Legends, founded in 2022 by Ayanda Mavundla in Melville near Banana Beach, produces between 2,500 and 3,000 bags of premium 4kg charcoal monthly. The business supplies several well-known retailers and has benefited from municipal support, including a bag-sewing machine and branded packaging. With further plans to invest in briquette production and scale into national retail chains, the enterprise represents the growing potential of black industrialists within the region.
