Tourism Positioned as a Catalyst for Inclusive Growth on the KZN South Coast

The South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) is strengthening its role in driving inclusive economic growth across the district by positioning tourism as a key catalyst for local development.

Through targeted catalytic projects including beachfront developments, adventure tourism nodes and eco-tourism assets the KZN South Coast is unlocking meaningful opportunities for SMMEs, stimulating job creation and attracting secondary investment into the region. These initiatives are aligned with government priorities focused on spatial transformation and sustainable local economic development.

In addition, SCTIE is playing a pivotal coordinating role in bridging mining companies, corporates, government and local communities. By facilitating the alignment of mining-linked Social and Labour Plans (SLPs) with district development priorities, SCTIE ensures that these investments contribute directly to tourism-led economic growth.

This coordinated approach is further strengthened through the integration of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) funding from sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and services. By consolidating these efforts, SCTIE is reducing duplication, improving transparency and directing resources towards high-impact initiatives, including tourism infrastructure development, enterprise support programmes and community upliftment projects.

SCTIE CEO, Dr. Sibiya, said: “Tourism remains one of the most powerful tools we have to drive inclusive economic development. By aligning public and private sector investment through SCTIE, we are ensuring that development is not only coordinated, but also impactful creating opportunities for local businesses, supporting job creation and delivering long-term value for our communities.”

SCTIE continues to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that tourism-led development remains a central pillar in transforming the economic landscape of the KZN South Coast.
