Project Description

The project aims to establish an integrated aquaculture facility for the production of table vegetables, herbs and fish in the KwaCele Tribal Authority in KwaZulu-Natal, within the Ugu District Municipality. The aim is to develop land located on the 100-year floodplain of the Amahlongwa River in the Amandawe Mission.

Project requirements

The project requires the construction and commissioning of aquaculture ponds and tunnels (hydroponics & aquaponics), warehousing, production facilities, cold-storage and administration facilities. It will also requires the installation of a pump-weir and piping on the river to feed the production ponds.

The nutrient rich hydroponics medium (fed by the aquaponics effluent) will produce rapid growth and a high monthly yield of quality herbs and vegetables.

THE PROJECT IS PROJECTED TO RUN OVER THREE PHASES

PHASE 1

The leveling of the platforms and associated civil work.

PHASE 2

The construction of the ponds, tunnels, warehouse, cold-storage & admin facilities and the installation of pumps and control & monitoring systems.

PHASE 3

Staff & management training & marketing activities. Planting of crops in the hydroponics tunnels & seeding / stocking of the aquaponics ponds.

Once the project has been successfully completed and is functioning optimally, we will implement succession training for the establishment and replication of similar projects throughout Ugu District Municipality.
